The Sneeds began an adventure to see canyons in Arizona and Southern Utah on May 14, 2013. As we landed in Las Vegas the temperatures had risen to 102 degrees. Getting settled while experiencing Nevada heat included trams to baggage claim, and a shuttle to the car rental center where we finally got our car at Dollar Rental. (Danny does not recommend using them and could write a book about their sales pitches at pickup time). We finally arrived at Sunset Station near Las Vegas in Henderson, Nevada. It is a huge hotel and casino on the outskirts of Las Vegas near the airport. Danny sat down briefly at the poker machines. Sunset Station was a sleepover before our road trip began.

Hotel Notes: This hotel complex is near the airport so that was the main reason for choosing it. The rooms were very nice but did not include coffee pot, microwave or fridge. WiFi was not free. We ate the buffet the first night. There are a number of other restaurants in the complex . It appears that getting to the buffet early is the key. The crowd grows quickly so we only ate at the buffet once. You need to get a gambling passport card to get the discount at the buffet. There is no charge for the card. Walmart was next door so we got a small cooler and provisions so we could make our own breakfast and lunch each day.
Bird Notes: city birds included Great-tailed Grackle, Starling, House Sparrow, Northern Mockingbird, DC Cormorants(Flyovers), Rock Pigeons, Eurasian-collared Doves. More on birding Vegas at the end of the blog. ...had best birding of the trip then.
